Carefree, AZ Community

The area in and around Carefree, Arizona, epitomizes the very best of the Old West. The town was conceived over a business lunch in 1946, by K.T. Palmer and Tom Darlington. 2,200 acres were purchased by the two visionaries 9 years later, and Carefree was created. A master planned community, the emphasis was on leisure. The whimsical street names, such as Tranquil Trail, Easy Street, and Ho and Hum Roads, were chosen to echo the lifestyle of the town, which is “free of care.” The town’s motto became “Home of Cowboys and Caviar, where the Old West meets the new.”

The beautiful desert is full of wildflowers, magnificent Saguaros, Ocotillos and Prickly Pear Cacti. Several generations of concerned citizens have ensured the beauty of Carefree will be preserved. Through zoning regulations, restrictions and building requirements, the colorful, natural surroundings of Carefree will remain as legendary and attractive as they are now.

Though Carefree is a world of it’s own, it’s easy access to Phoenix makes it a convenient paradise. Come see for yourself the beauty and the lifestyle that is Carefree.
